Tue, 05 Aug 2025 'I feel deflated by court's car finance ruling'

Andrew Wrench says he feels "let down" after losing his case at the Supreme Court.
A man from Stoke-on-Trent has expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court's decision to reject his claim for compensation against car finance firms over hidden commissions on loans. Andrew Wrench felt "deflated" by the ruling, which means millions of motorists who were expecting reimbursement may not receive it after all. Despite being one of three claimants involved in the court case, Wrench was unsuccessful along with another claimant, while a third person's case is still pending. While the Supreme Court did rule that larger commissions are unfair and left open the possibility for compensation claims, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has stated that victims may receive less than £950 per deal under its proposed compensation scheme. The FCA plans to begin consulting on who should be eligible for compensation in October, with payments expected next year.
