Tue, 05 Aug 2025 Zara ads banned for 'unhealthily thin' models

It comes after the advertising watchdog banned M&S and Next ads for showing models who appeared too thin.

* Zara's adverts banned by Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for featuring unhealthily thin models
* ASA rules that 2 out of 4 Zara adverts must be removed in their current form and all future images must be prepared responsibly
* Zara removes the two banned adverts from its app and website, claims both models had medical certification proving they were in good health when pictures were taken
* Models' legs appeared "noticeably thin" due to shadows used in one advert
* Model's collarbones made a focal feature in another advert due to her pose and low-cut shirt design
* Zara follows recommendations of 2007 report Fashioning a Healthy Future, but ASA rules that some images were still irresponsible
* This is not the first time retailers have been banned for featuring unhealthily thin models, with Marks & Spencer and Next also having adverts banned earlier this year
