Fri, 08 Aug 2025 Is super skinny back? UK sees rise in ad complaints over thin models

Zara, M&S and Next had ads banned over models that look "unhealthily thin" - is size zero making a comeback
Industry experts have differing opinions on the issue:
* Model Charli Howard believes that the return of "heroin chic" is a worrying trend.
* Yoga teacher Charlotte Holmes says that ultra-thin remains the silent standard for models, despite the body positivity movement.
* Fashion journalist Victoria Moss thinks it's not about heroin chic but rather the rise of weight loss injections and a moral health imperative.
* Stylist Simone Konu-Rae believes that being thin is not necessarily back in fashion, but rather high street brands using runway models to elevate their collections.
* Personal stylist Keren Beaumont attributes the trend to the comeback of nineties fashion silhouettes. The ASA has called for greater responsibility from brands to ensure they don't present unhealthy body images as aspirational.
