Depending on the timeframe you look at, the GDP figures can be seen as glass half full or half empty.
* UK GDP growth slowed to 0.3% in spring quarter (April-June), down from 0.7% at start of year
* Economy had been expected to almost stop growing, but June data was better than expected and April figure revised up
* First half-year GDP growth exceeds that of other major economies, with solid overall growth despite challenges
* Revised figures show combined January-March and April-June growth at 1%, beating rest of advanced economies
* Consumer confidence remains low due to tax rises, worker-costs, and job creation issues in retail and hospitality sectors
* However, some industries such as IT sector are doing well, and better trade terms with EU and India expected to boost growth
* Further slow growth expected in next few months, but recessionary vibes are off the mark
