Sofea says 15,000 more meals have been delivered in July this year compared to the same period in 2024
* Sofea, a local food redistribution charity in Didcot, delivered 15,000 more meals to people in July compared to the same period last year.
* The charity is part of the national FareShare network, which aims to reduce food waste by delivering surplus food to charities and families.
* Since the start of the summer holidays, FareShare has delivered 2,500 tonnes of food nationally, equivalent to six million meals.
* Sofea's warehouse was damaged in flooding last December, but the charity has continued to operate and deliver food to local community larders.
* The Abingdon Community Larder, one of several recipients of Sofea's deliveries, reported that it had saved a single parent family significant amounts of money and helped them with meal planning.
* A recent survey by FareShare found that 51% of charities in their network were expecting an increase in demand over the summer holidays.
* The Abingdon Community Larder serves as a meeting point for local families, providing not only food but also opportunities for social interaction and support.
