Tue, 19 Aug 2025 Borders social housing pilots new energy system

Eleven properties have had the system installed as part of a trial.
Eleven social housing properties in the Scottish Borders have been equipped with new power storage systems that could potentially reduce energy bills by 85%. The systems, developed by Knight PowerHub, combine solar panels and batteries to store excess energy. This technology allows for automatic time-dependent tariffs, which can minimize energy costs. Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes visited one of the homes and noted that the resident had already seen a decrease in their expenses. According to Knight PowerHub's founder Lawrence Fagg, this system has been developed after five years of research and development. The trial aims to assess the potential for mass manufacturing in Scotland and eventual rollout to other areas if successful.
