Millions are told to prepare for disruption from traffic, rail engineering works and strikes.

* Heavy traffic, rail works and strikes will disrupt travel plans over the bank holiday weekend
* 17.6 million car journeys expected across UK between Friday and Monday, with worst congestion in South East and South West regions
* CrossCountry advises no travel on Saturday due to RMT strike, while Network Rail closes several major routes for engineering works
* Major events like Notting Hill Carnival, Reading and Leeds festivals, and Creamfields festival will attract large crowds
* M5 between Bristol and Devon expected to see severe traffic delays of over 40 minutes on Friday and Saturday
* Motorists should also expect hold-ups on M20 in Kent lasting over half an hour on Friday
* Network Rail says "vast majority" of railway will run, but advises passengers to check journeys in advance due to works on over 260 projects
* Several rail services affected by engineering works, including LNER and Avanti West Coast services
* Weather forecast: dry but cloudy on Friday, dry with some cloud on Saturday and Sunday, warm temperatures (23-25C) in central and southern England, possibility of rain on Monday due to approaching Hurricane Erin
