More than 23 million coins are being released, alongside 7.5 million new King Charles III coins.

* Over 23 million £1 coins featuring Queen Elizabeth II's face are entering circulation, with 7.5m new King Charles III coins also being released.
* The Royal Mint considers this a "pivotal moment in British coinage history" as the country transitions to its new monarch.
* The final batch of Queen Elizabeth II £1 coins will become some of the rarest in circulation, with only 7.735 million being released.
* King Charles III's coins have been in production since 2023 but are now entering circulation alongside Queen Elizabeth II's last coins.
* The Royal Mint is encouraging people to check their change for the new coins and hopes it will spark a hobby of collecting them.
* There are about 24.7 billion coins in circulation across the UK, with King Charles III's coins currently making up only 0.004% of those.
