Mon, 25 Aug 2025 Chocolate and butter prices help drive food inflation to 18-month high

* Butter: Saw significant increases due to high demand, tightening supply and increased labour costs
* Eggs: Also saw significant increases for the same reasons as butter
* Chocolate: Became more expensive globally due to poor harvests caused by climate change and crop disease A separate survey from the Office for National Statistics found that everyday food items have risen in price by a similar amount over the last year. There is some respite for parents ahead of the new academic year with cheaper clothing, books, stationery and computing.
