Tue, 26 Aug 2025 Korean Air to buy 103 Boeing jets as Trump pressures trading partners

The deal was announced just hours after the presidents of the US and South Korea met in Washington.

* Boeing and Korean Air have announced a deal worth $36bn for 103 planes, including 787, 777, and 737 passenger jets.
* The deal is part of President Donald Trump's efforts to encourage trading partners to do more business with American firms.
* Korean Air will modernize its fleet with the new jets as it merges with Asiana Airlines.
* The agreement was announced just hours after South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with Trump in Washington to discuss US tariffs imposed on South Korea.
* The deal is part of a series of agreements made between the two countries, including a collaboration between Samsung and Vigor Marine Group for maintenance operations for the US Navy.
* Hyundai Motor Group has also announced that it will raise its investment in the US from $21bn to $26bn and set up a new facility to produce 30,000 robots per year.
* The Boeing deal is expected to support around 135,000 jobs across the US.
* This is part of a larger trend, with several countries negotiating trade agreements with the Trump administration announcing plans to make significant Boeing aircraft orders.
