Thu, 28 Aug 2025 Sports car manufacturer Lotus to cut 550 jobs

The BBC understands more than a third of workers at the Norfolk headquarters will lose their jobs.
Lotus plans to cut 550 jobs at its UK headquarters in Norfolk, despite previously denying reports of factory closure and US plant setup. The company says the decision follows a review of business objectives due to "rapid changes in global policies including tariffs". Lotus remains committed to the UK but will diversify its business model through third-party manufacturing. Around 1,300 workers are currently based at the site. Local politicians have expressed concern for the affected employees and plan to work with the government to support them. The company was founded by Colin Chapman in the early 1950s and has been based at Hethel since the 1960s.
