Wed, 03 Sep 2025 M&S hackers claim to be behind Jaguar Land Rover cyber attack

The hack has caused severe disruption at manufacturing plants globally, with some staff told not to come into work.
A group of hackers, known as "Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters", has claimed responsibility for disrupting Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) global production lines through a cyber attack. The gang, who are believed to be teenagers, have been boasting about their hack on messaging app Telegram and sharing screenshots that appear to show access to JLR's internal systems. The group is thought to be responsible for several high-profile attacks in the UK, including those on M&S in the spring. They claim to have accessed JLR's networks and are now trying to extort money from the company. Security experts say that the screenshots posted by the hackers suggest they may have gained unauthorized access to sensitive information. However, the extent of the damage is still unclear, with JLR reporting no evidence of customer data being stolen but significant disruption to production. The hackers have been using a private Telegram channel with nearly 52,000 subscribers to brag about their hacks and share internal company documents. The group has been associated with several youth-oriented cybercrime networks, including The Com. JLR has confirmed that it is investigating the claims and working to get manufacturing back online as soon as possible. The Information Commissioner's Office is also assessing the situation. The National Crime Agency (NCA) had previously warned about the threat from cybercriminals in The Com network, which includes several notorious hacking groups.
