Wed, 03 Sep 2025 US revokes TSMC's licence on China-bound tech

The move blocks TSMC from shipping US-made tech to its facility in China.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has had its authorization to export advanced US technology to China revoked by Washington. This move could disrupt TSMC's manufacturing capabilities in China, where it produces older-generation chips. The company will assess the situation and negotiate with the US government to ensure uninterrupted operation of its Chinese facility. The US government had notified TSMC that its authorization would be revoked by year-end. As a result, shipments may become more expensive and complicated due to individual approval requirements for suppliers from the US. This could force Chinese customers to turn to domestic alternatives, potentially slowing down innovation in China.
