The Babcock shipyard in Rosyth is finalising a deal to build up to four Type 31 frigates for the Danish navy.
* Rosyth shipyard expected to win £1billion contract to build four frigates for Danish navy
* Yard also competing with French firm for Swedish navy contract for up to seven Type 31 ships
* Scottish shipbuilding industry sees boom in exports after contracts won by BAE Systems and Babcock
* Type 31 ships, known as Arrowhead 1400, are general purpose fighting vessels based on design used by Danish navy
* Each Royal Navy Type 31 ship costs £250m to build, with first two built at a loss for Babcock
* Shipyard's workforce of 2,500 could rise to 4,000 if contracts won, including potential work on nuclear-armed submarines
* Rosyth yard is also involved in dismantling retired submarines and preparing for potential future nuclear submarine work
* Babcock expects demand for rolled steel plates from Dalzell steelworks in Motherwell to increase with new contracts
* Defence spending by Nato countries, including UK, seen as welcome boost to industry despite much of it going into government infrastructure
