Landlord Graham Matthews, who ran the pub for several stints including from 1990s to 2015, attributed its closure to declining foot traffic due to financial constraints and changing consumer habits among younger generations. An auction was held on-site to sell off memorabilia and fixtures before the pub's sale, with one potential buyer planning to convert it into a wedding venue and private event space.
