Lachlan Murdoch will retain control the conservative Fox and News Corp empire under the deal.
Rupert Murdoch's children have reached an agreement over control of his media empire, with Lachlan set to take the reins after his father's death. The deal ensures that Fox News and other conservative outlets will remain in family hands, despite years of tension between Lachlan and his siblings Prue MacLeod, Elisabeth Murdoch, and James Murdoch. Under the agreement, Lachlan will control a new trust while his siblings will cease to be beneficiaries of any trust with shares in Fox or News Corp. The deal follows a long-running succession battle that has been likened to the TV drama Succession. As part of the deal, Prue MacLeod, Elisabeth Murdoch, and James Murdoch are set to sell their holdings in Fox and News Corp, and will receive cash from the sale of shares. This will prevent them from having any influence over the editorial content of the family's media conglomerate. Lachlan is currently the chair of News Corp, and is widely seen as the most conservative of his father's children. The deal brings an end to litigation over the family's trust, and ensures that the Murdoch family's media empire will remain in conservative hands for years to come.
