Card providers would be allowed to set their own contactless card payment limit, under the regulator's plans.
* Banks and other providers would be allowed to set their own limits, making a four-digit PIN less necessary for large purchases.
* The FCA proposes that card providers only permit higher-value contactless payments for low-risk transactions, and would carry the burden if things go wrong.
* However, industry respondents, including many consumers, have expressed concerns about potential theft and fraud with increased contactless limits.
* Currently, the limit is £100, but some banks already allow customers to set their own lower limits or switch off contactless payments altogether.
