Wed, 10 Sep 2025 Larry Ellison briefly tops Elon Musk as world's richest person

The Oracle cofounder's wealth temporarily overtook Musk's fortune, propelled by an AI boom.
For a brief period, Larry Ellison surpassed Elon Musk as the world's richest person due to Oracle's soaring stock price. The co-founder of Oracle and an ally of Donald Trump saw his wealth surge to $393 billion on Wednesday morning, surpassing Musk's $385 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The jump in Oracle's share price was fueled by the company's unexpectedly strong outlook for its cloud infrastructure business and artificial intelligence deals. However, the firm's stock price had shed some gains by the end of the day, putting Musk back on top. Musk had held the title of world's richest person for nearly a year before briefly losing it to Ellison. As part of his pay package with Tesla, Musk could receive over $1 trillion if he meets ambitious targets set by the company's board over the next decade. However, shares in Tesla have fallen this year due to investor concerns about the Trump administration's rollback of electric vehicle initiatives and consumer backlash against Musk's political involvement.
