Kering, the luxury French fashion house which owns the brands, confirmed the attack to BBC News.
* A cyber attack has stolen private details of potentially millions of customers from luxury brands including Balenciaga, Gucci and Alexander McQueen.
* The stolen data includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses and total amount spent in stores.
* No financial information, such as card details, was stolen.
* Kering, the parent company of the brands, has confirmed the breach and notified affected customers by email.
* Cyber criminal "Shiny Hunters" claims to have 7.4m unique email addresses linked to the data breach.
* The hacker appears to be acting alone and breached the luxury brands in April through Kering.
* Shiny Hunters is believed to be responsible for a wave of attacks on luxury brands, including Cartier and Louis Vuitton.
* The breach has raised concerns about secondary hacks and scams targeting high-spending customers.
* Kering has secured its IT systems and refused to pay the hacker's ransom demand.
