Tue, 16 Sep 2025 JLR could face disruption until November after cyber hack, claim sources

The firm will restart production on 24 September but industry sources warn the impact could last longer.
Jaguar Land Rover's (JLR) production will remain halted until at least September 24 due to a cyber attack, with industry sources warning that disruption could last into November. The hack, which occurred over two weeks ago, forced JLR to shut down its IT systems and brought production to a standstill. A criminal investigation is ongoing. The company has dismissed reports of prolonged operational impact as "speculation", but suppliers are growing increasingly concerned about the financial implications of the stoppage. Industry insiders say that even once production restarts, it may take several weeks for output to return to normal levels. Suppliers, many of whom are small and medium-sized businesses, are struggling to cope with the extended shutdown, with some warning of potential bankruptcies unless prompt support is provided. The shutdown is estimated to be costing JLR at least £50m a week in lost production, with over 1,000 cars per day not being built. JLR's global operations have been severely impacted, with all production lines shut down since September 1. The company has admitted that some data may have been viewed or stolen as a result of the cyber attack. Industry experts are warning that the consequences of the stoppage could be far-reaching, including potential lasting damage to the UK's engineering base. The UK government is being urged to provide support for vulnerable businesses in the supply chain, with Unite calling for a furlough scheme to help pay salaries of those unable to work due to the stoppage. The Commons Business and Trade Committee has also asked the Chancellor to outline plans to support affected companies. JLR's investigation into the cyber attack is ongoing, with a group claiming responsibility for the hack saying it was carried out by "Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters".
