Thu, 18 Sep 2025 Air India crash victims' families sue aerospace firms Boeing and Honeywell

They accuse the manufacturers of doing "nothing" despite being aware of the plane's risks.

* Four families of passengers who died on Air India Flight 171 have filed a lawsuit against Boeing and Honeywell in the US, alleging negligence.
* The lawsuit claims that faulty fuel switches caused the crash, which killed 260 people, and that the companies were aware of the risks but did nothing to prevent it.
* Fuel control switches in Boeing aircraft are at the center of the investigation, with the FAA previously stating they are safe.
* The lawsuit alleges that both firms knew about the risk of a crash since they developed and marketed the 787 Dreamliner and its components.
* A preliminary investigation report by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau found that the fuel switch was moved from "run" to the "cut-off" position, hampering the thrust of the plane.
* The families claim that this amounts to a design defect that allowed for an inadvertent cutoff of fuel supply and total loss of thrust necessary to propel the plane.
* Boeing and Honeywell failed to warn airlines about the need to inspect and repair the switches and did not provide replacement parts, according to the lawsuit.
