Mon, 22 Sep 2025 EU cyber agency says airport software held to ransom by criminals

Brussels Airport asks airlines to cancel nearly half of their outgoing flights on Monday.

* Ransomware attacks have caused chaos in several major airports around the world, including Heathrow and Brussels.
* The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) has identified the type of ransomware used and law enforcement is involved in investigating.
* Several airlines were affected by the attack, with many still using manual workarounds to board and check-in passengers.
* Collins Aerospace was targeted by hackers who used a popular checking software called Muse.
* Over 1,000 computers may have been "corrupted" and most of the work to bring them back online is being done in person.
* Ransomware attacks are a prolific problem, with organised cyber crime gangs earning hundreds of millions of dollars from ransoms every year.
* Cyberattacks in the aviation sector have increased by 600% over the past year, according to a recent report by French aerospace company Thales.
