The online retail giant says it would convert five of the 19 shops into Whole Foods stores.
* Amazon is closing 19 UK grocery stores, including 14 Amazon Fresh sites and 5 that will be converted into Whole Foods stores.
* The closures affect around 250 staff, with Amazon launching a consultation process on its proposals.
* The company plans to focus on online delivery services in the groceries sector, including partnerships with Morrisons, Co-op, Iceland, and Gopuff.
* Five of the closed stores will become Whole Foods sites, with Amazon planning to have 12 Whole Foods stores in the UK by the end of 2026.
* Analysts suggest that Amazon's grocery strategy has been inconsistent and that it may not have created a differentiated offering for its Fresh stores.
* The closures are part of Amazon's ongoing experimentations in the groceries sector, with the company having previously shut down three Amazon Fresh stores in London.
* Redeployment opportunities will be offered to affected employees.
