Wed, 24 Sep 2025 YouTube content creators contributed £2.2bn to UK economy in 2024

The data has been released to coincide with the launch of a new group of MPs representing creators and influencers.
A new parliamentary group has been launched to represent UK YouTube creators and influencers, who have contributed £2.2 billion to the economy in 2024 and supported 45,000 jobs, according to an Oxford Economics report. The all-party parliamentary group (APPG) aims to raise awareness of the challenges faced by content creators, including access to training and funding opportunities, suitable studio spaces, and film permits. British YouTuber Lilly Sabri welcomed the move, saying that it is a long-overdue recognition of their work. She stated that without YouTube, she wouldn't have been able to launch her businesses and employ people. The APPG's co-chair Feryal Clark described content creators as "trailblazers of a new creative revolution" who had been "undervalued in Westminster for too long". Some prominent YouTubers, including DanTDM and the Sidemen, are part of the UK YouTube community. They have expressed their support for the APPG and the need for government support to help them grow their businesses. Brandon B, a YouTuber with 16 million subscribers, said that the industry needs government backing to "break through to the next level". He highlighted the difficulties in navigating UK rules and the need for infrastructure to support business growth. The launch of the APPG is seen as a significant step towards recognizing the contribution of content creators and influencers to the economy. It is also part of a broader trend of streamers and influencers entering the political mainstream, with some attending receptions at 10 Downing Street in the UK and White House press briefings in the US.
