Thu, 25 Sep 2025 Jaguar Land Rover restarts some IT systems after cyber-attack

The carmaker says it is working through a backlog of payments as its IT systems come back online.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has begun a "phased restart" of its operations after a cyber-attack in August forced it to shut down its IT networks. The company's production lines have been suspended since then, and factories are expected to remain closed until next month at the earliest. As part of the recovery plan, JLR has increased its processing capacity for invoicing, allowing it to clear a backlog of payments to suppliers. However, some suppliers, mostly small businesses, may struggle to stay afloat due to the prolonged shutdown. The UK government is working on a support package for affected suppliers, but no final plan has been agreed upon yet. Ideas being considered include the government buying component parts from suppliers or providing them with government-backed loans. JLR's recovery programme is "firmly underway", and its global parts logistics centre is returning to full operations. The company is also working on getting its financial systems back online, which will allow it to sell and register vehicles faster and deliver cash flow to customers. The situation has been described as "urgent" by Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer, with some suppliers warning that they have only "weeks left" before the financial impact disrupts the car supply chain. The government is working closely with JLR's suppliers and industry experts to come up with a viable solution.
