Regular mobile payments surged across different age groups last year, new banking data suggests.
Half of UK adults now regularly use mobile payments.
* 50% of adults used mobile payments at least once a month in 2024, up from 34% in 2023.
* Mobile payment users include:
+ 78% of 16-24-year-olds
+ 59% of 35-44-year-olds (up from 38% the previous year)
+ 19% of those aged 65 and over
* Debit cards remain the most popular way to pay, but physical contactless card use has decreased.
* Cash usage has continued to decline, with nearly 50 million people still using ATMs.
