Mon, 06 Oct 2025 US shutdown to continue after funding measures fail again in Senate

This was the fifth time that Republicans and Democrats brought their funding measures up for a vote.

* 45-50 vote: Democratic-led bill to extend government funding failed
* 52-42 vote: Republican-led "clean" funding bill also failed
* Trump's claim that another failed vote would trigger mass layoffs was not borne out as thousands of federal employees continued to be furloughed or work without pay.
* Despite hints of compromise, no deal was reached and the shutdown continues.
