The US government said approximately 2.9 million cars could be impacted by the investigation.
* Tesla's self-driving cars have been reported to break traffic laws, including driving on the wrong side of the road and not stopping at red lights.
* The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into 58 reports of such incidents involving approximately 2.9 million vehicles equipped with full self-driving tech.
* Tesla's "Full Self-Driving (Supervised)" mode is being investigated, which allows drivers to make lane changes and turns but requires them to remain alert and take control if necessary.
* There have been six crashes caused by cars stopping at a red light before setting off, four of which resulted in injuries.
* The NHTSA has also received reports of vehicles going into the opposite lane when making a turn, with some incidents giving drivers little notice or opportunity to intervene.
* Tesla is already facing another investigation from the NHTSA over its door locking mechanisms.
