In 2001, economist Jim O’Neill wrote a report on countries set to shape the world economy
The term "BRIC" was coined as a shortening of these countries' names. Initially, the concept gained little traction but took off in 2009 when BRIC countries held their first summit and expanded to include South Africa, forming BRICS. Today, BRICS has 11 member states and is making headlines due to US President Donald Trump's threats of tariffs.
