Greater Anglia describes renationalisation as a step towards a "simpler, more unified" rail network.
* Greater Anglia becomes the latest rail operator to enter public ownership.
* It joins six other operators, including c2c and Northern, which are already under government control.
* The company runs trains from Cambridge, Ipswich, Norwich and Colchester to London, as well as Stansted Airport and smaller lines.
* Half of all rail operators are now publicly owned, with the Transport Secretary describing it as a step towards a more unified network called Great British Railways.
* Greater Anglia says the move will allow them to work more closely with other public operators and improve passenger services.
* The company is investing in new stations and trains, including two new bi-mode trains.
* Other rail operators are set to follow, with West Midlands Trains returning to state ownership on 1 February and Govia Thameslink Railway on 31 May.
