The country hopes to build a big tech sector, fuelled by its vast amount of cheap hydroelectricity.
Minister of Technology and Communication Gustavo Villate says that Paraguay has the "youngest population, renewable green energy, low taxes and economic stability" making it an ideal location for tech companies. He is working with President Santiago Peña to attract foreign investors and create a tech ecosystem in the country.
There are also initiatives to train young people in technology, including a non-profit association called Girls Code, which aims to close the tech gender gap by providing programming and robotics workshops for teenagers and young women.
The government hopes that Paraguay's surplus of electricity will attract global tech firms focused on AI computing, with Sebastian Ortiz-Chamorro saying that hydroelectric power is "both renewable and steady" making it an attractive option for data centres and other electro-intensive activities.
