Mon, 13 Oct 2025 Firms advised to put plans on paper in case of cyber-attack

Prepare to switch to off-line systems in the event of a cyber-attack, firms are being advised.

* Recent hacks on Marks and Spencer, Co-op, and Jaguar Land Rover have highlighted chaos caused when hackers target computer systems.
* National Cyber-Security Centre (NCSC) reports increase in more serious cyber attacks this year, with 429 incidents in first nine months.
* Number of "nationally significant" incidents has risen to nearly half (204), up from 89 last year.
* NCSC suggests firms have a plan for how they would continue to operate without their IT and rebuild it quickly in case of an attack.
* Agency recommends storing plans offline or on paper, rather than digitally.
* Total number of hacks dealt with by NCSC is similar to previous year, but more had a bigger impact.
