Wed, 15 Oct 2025 UK targets Russian oil market in fresh sanctions

The government has also targeted a major Indian energy company and Chinese oil terminals in new sanctions.

* Britain has imposed sanctions on: + Russia's two largest oil companies: Lukoil and Rosneft + 44 tankers operating in Russia's "shadow fleet" + India's Nayara Energy Limited, which imports Russian crude oil worth over $5 billion (£3.75 billion) + Four Chinese oil terminals
* The sanctions aim to cut off Vladimir Putin's ability to fund the war in Ukraine and are expected to have a significant impact on Russia's economy.
* The UK government says there is "no place for Russian oil on global markets" and will take actions necessary to destroy the capability of the Russian government to continue its illegal war in Ukraine.
