Thu, 16 Oct 2025 Canada threatens Jeep-maker over possible US move

The Canadian government was reacting after the company said it would move start producing its Jeep Compass model in Illinois.
Canada has threatened Stellantis with legal action over its plan to move Jeep Compass production from Ontario to Illinois.
* Canada claims Stellantis made a "legally binding" commitment to stay in Brampton in exchange for financial support.
* Industry Minister Mélanie Joly said the move would jeopardize the future of the Brampton factory and affect thousands of jobs.
* Stellantis has invested $13bn in the US, but says it is also investing in Canada and plans to expand its operations at the Windsor plant.
* The company claims it will create 1,500 new jobs at the Windsor site to support increased demand for certain models.
* A spokesperson for Stellantis said the company values its partnership with Canada and will share details of its Brampton plans after further discussions with the government.
