Thu, 16 Oct 2025 Major UK rare earths refinery scrapped in favour of US

The project would have given the UK a strategic foothold in the rare earths industry.
A previous £5m contribution from the Treasury was deemed insufficient by Pensana's founder Paul Atherley, who compares it to a US deal worth over half a billion dollars for a similar facility in California. The company is now planning to team up with US refiner ReElement and list its shares on the Nasdaq stock exchange.
