Thu, 23 Oct 2025 Assaults on rail network more than triple in 10 years

The increase in the number of reported assaults coincides with a push to have passengers report incidents.

* Reported passenger assaults on the rail network have tripled in the past 10 years, with 10,231 incidents reported between April 2024 and March 2025.
* The number of reported assaults increased by 7% compared to the previous year.
* Harassment and common assault accounted for more than three-quarters of all reported assaults on the mainline rail network.
* Reports of harassment and common assault also reached a record high on the London Underground, with over 4,600 incidents reported.
* The number of suicides on the rail network has also increased, with 368 reported cases resulting in 293 fatalities.
* Injuries to members of the public and workers have been creeping back towards pre-pandemic highs, with over 11,472 injuries reported between April 2024 and March 2025.
