JLR shutdown after hack drives UK car production to worst September since 1952
* UK car production fell by 27% in September, with just over 51,000 vehicles made.
* This is the lowest number of cars made in any September since 1952, including the pandemic.
* The Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) cyber-attack was largely responsible for the slump in UK car production.
* JLR's five-week factory shutdown due to the cyber-attack cost £1.9bn and is estimated to be the most economically damaging cyber event in UK history.
* 5,000 businesses have been affected by the cyber attack, with a full recovery not expected until January 2026.
* Total vehicle production slumped by 35.9% in September compared to a year ago.
* Exports fell by 24.5% in September, with the EU, US, Turkey, Japan, and South Korea being the top five destinations.
* This year so far UK car and van factories have made 582,250 vehicles, which is 15.2% lower than at the same point last year.
