Sat, 25 Oct 2025 Representation to red flags: The fall and future of Manchester Pride

One of the UK's biggest LGBTQ+ events has gone bust - how did it happen, and what now for the staff, performers and community?
Former Drag Race UK queen Saki Yew was paid late for her performance at this year's Manchester Pride, but other workers are still owed money. Event manager Abbie Ashall and contractor Chris O'Connor claim they were not informed about the financial troubles while waiting for payment. Manchester Pride reported a loss of £468,000 in 2023 and launched a new event, Mardi Gras, which was reportedly unsuccessful. The organisation's bid to host Europride in 2028 also failed, leading some to speculate that this was a significant factor in its downfall. The Charity Commission is investigating concerns about Manchester Pride's finances after the organisation submitted a "serious incident report". Manchester City Council has pledged to support a new chapter for Manchester Pride, but for workers who have lost trust and money, it may be too late.
