* Engineer Adam Root, founder of Matter, has been shortlisted for a global prize by Prince William for his invention that removes microplastics from water.
* The Regen filter was developed over four years and initially built at his mother-in-law's dining table.
* Microplastics are found on every part of Earth and pose risks to human health and marine life.
* Root's company Matter has raised over £15m and employs 45 people, with the filter now used in textile factories worldwide.
* The company is a finalist in the "revive our oceans" category at the Earthshot awards, which could win them £1m.
