Wed, 29 Oct 2025 Boeing hit with $5bn in penalties as new jet delayed

The beleaguered firm said it now plans to deliver 777X jets starting from 2027.
Boeing's production of its highly anticipated 777X planes has been pushed back to 2027, resulting in a $5 billion loss due to late delivery penalties. The delay was attributed to regulatory hurdles that the company needs to overcome. Boeing's revenue rose by 30% to $23.27 billion in the three months leading up to September, but the company is still dealing with trust issues following several accidents and worker strikes over pay and conditions. The company's CEO, Kelly Ortberg, said they are working to "restore trust" and stabilize operations. Boeing anticipates that delivering the 777X planes from 2027 will improve their cash flow, which has been impacted by the delays, resulting in almost $15 billion in charges so far. The model is expected to be more efficient than its competitors, generate higher revenue for airlines, and have improved reliability, cabin air quality, and ride experience.
