Wed, 29 Oct 2025 Free baby clothes to support parents facing hardship

Free baby clothes for children up to the age of five are being offered in a new shop in Strabane.
The project, called HiVe Baby Hub and Free Clothing Exchange, is located in the Grass Roots Centre on John Wesley Street and can be accessed through a referral from a health visitor, family nurse, or social worker, or by visiting the centre directly. The scheme also operates as a wellness café and social supermarket offering discounted groceries and services such as money management and cooking classes. The project aims to reduce waste by recycling clothing and providing families in need with essential items. Ursula Doherty from the Strabane Community Project said that people are struggling to afford basic baby hygiene products and clothes, making the initiative a vital support for local families. Families can donate gently used clothing if they have spare items, helping to create a cycle of reuse and reduce waste. The project's aim is not only to provide essential items but also to promote sustainability by recycling and reusing clothing. Niree McMorris, Derry and Strabane Deputy Mayor, praised the initiative as "amazing" for its community-focused approach and commitment to reducing landfill waste.
