* Energy UK advises people to check for outstanding credit by contacting their old supplier with up-to-date contact details.
* Most people are likely to owe a few pounds, but some could claim back over £100.
* Suppliers are obligated to return credit to customers, but missing or outdated contact information can cause delays.
* Ofgem says that around 2 million closed accounts are currently in credit and urges people to check for themselves.
* Energy UK recommends keeping direct debit active until the final bill is settled to ensure automatic refunds.
* Suppliers must issue a final bill within 6 weeks and refund customers within 10 working days, but missing customer details can cause delays.
