Fri, 31 Oct 2025 No free bus passes for under 22s, says government

The Commons Transport Committee recommended scrapping bus fares for young people in August.
Critics argue that the decision is a missed opportunity to address issues such as poor connectivity, joblessness and social isolation among young people. Many have also expressed disappointment, including those who have experienced free or low-cost public transportation in other countries. The government has instead welcomed the new Bus Services Act, which it says will give local authorities more control over bus services and make them "easier to manage". However, some of the Transport Committee's recommendations were rejected, including calls for minimum service levels for buses.
