Fri, 31 Oct 2025 Stop avoiding your bank balance and other ways to manage your money better

If you're struggling to get on top of your money, here are four ways to help you manage it better.
1. Identify your spending habits: Look at your bank statements to see when and why you spend money, including during times of stress or boredom. 2. Understand your financial behavior: Recognize how your upbringing and past experiences (such as a negative attitude towards maths) may be influencing your current relationship with money. 3. Tackle your finances head-on: Set aside time each week to review your bank account and outgoings, even if it's just an hour a week. 4. Take control of your finances gradually: Start by addressing one issue at a time, such as learning about investing or asking for a pay rise at work. Additional tips:
* Consider setting up a "freedom fund" to give you options and security in difficult situations
* Be patient with yourself and don't be too hard on yourself if you're just starting out.
