Sun, 02 Nov 2025 China to ease chip export ban in new trade deal, White House says

Nexperia chips are vital in car production and there were concerns from manufacturers about the damage a shortage could have.

* China will ease its export ban on automotive computer chips, allowing production to resume at Nexperia's facilities in China.
* The chip shortage could have led to temporary shutdowns at car plants, including Volvo Cars and Volkswagen.
* Beijing will pause export controls on rare earth minerals for a year, which are vital in the production of cars, planes, and weapons.
* The US will lower tariffs on fentanyl, with China agreeing to take "significant measures" to deal with the issue.
* China has committed to buying 12 million tonnes of US soybeans in the last two months of 2025 and 25 million metric tonnes each year for the following three years.
* The agreement also includes a commitment from China to resolve "major trade issues", including the supply of materials used in fentanyl production.
