The poor state of military housing has been a consistent complaint among serving personnel in recent years.

* £9bn government plan to modernise, refurbish or rebuild 47,700 military homes across UK over next decade
* Almost all Ministry of Defence homes for military families will be improved
* 14,000 homes will receive substantial refurbishment or be completely replaced
* New kitchens, bathrooms and heating systems will be installed in service family accommodation (SFA)
* Government has identified surplus MoD land to build 100,000 new homes for civilian and military families
* £4bn in funding already announced to tackle housing problem
* Plans are part of government's wider defence housing strategy to be published on Monday
