Mon, 03 Nov 2025 Food bank vows to continue despite setback

A volunteers says the charity "will not finish" after being told to close the service.
FoodShare, a foodbank based at St Martin's Church in Hereford, has been forced to leave its current location due to financial and staffing issues. However, the charity has reassured clients that it will continue to operate from a new location and is seeking help to keep momentum going. According to Cat Hornsey, co-ordinator at FoodShare, the organisation will not close down despite being told to vacate its base with immediate effect. The charity cited financial support as the main reason for the move, citing difficulties in maintaining food storage facilities, running a collection van, and meeting operating licences for food transportation. The charity also highlighted the difficulty of finding a new co-ordinator, which has been vacant since spring, and thanked the Hereford Diocese for their efforts to find an alternative solution. A spokesperson from the Hereford Diocese confirmed that they are working behind the scenes to keep FoodShare running in the long term and have been seeking an interim solution. The Diocese expressed hope of being able to continue the service longer-term. FoodShare has pledged to stay open despite leaving its current location, with plans to reopen from a new base just two days after the move.
