Possession and publication of such material will be a criminal offence, under amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill.

* Possession and publication of such material will become a criminal offence under amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill
* Online platforms must proactively detect and remove such material or face enforcement action from Ofcom
* Choking in pornography will be treated as a "priority offence" under the Online Safety Act, on the same level as child sexual abuse material and terrorism content
* The move aims to tackle violence against women and girls by addressing normalisation of violent acts in online content
* 38% of women aged 18-39 reported being choked during sex in a 2019 BBC survey
* Campaigners welcome the move but express concerns about enforcement, with some arguing existing laws have not been effectively used.
