Tue, 04 Nov 2025 Pizza Hut's parent company explores sale of struggling chain

Yum! Brands is exploring a possible sale of its Pizza Hut chain, as the business struggles to compete with rivals.
Yum! Brands is considering selling its Pizza Hut chain due to struggling sales, which have declined in several quarters, particularly in the US market that accounts for 42% of global sales. Same-store sales at Pizza Hut's existing outlets fell 1% overall in the most recent quarter, while rival companies KFC and Taco Bell showed strength, with same-store sales rising 3% and 7% respectively. The company generates about 11% of its operating profits from Pizza Hut business and operates roughly 20,000 Pizza Hut stores globally. Competitors like Papa Johns and Domino's continue to gain market share, making it challenging for Pizza Hut to stay competitive. In a statement, CEO Chris Turner said that the brand needs "additional action" to reach its full value, which may be achieved by exploring strategic options outside of Yum! Brands. The company's decision comes as consumers, especially in the US, are cutting back on spending due to inflation and economic slowdowns. The fast-food industry has been impacted, with chains like Chipotle reporting cautious consumer behavior among younger demographics. In the UK, Pizza Hut is closing half its restaurants amid declining sales.
