Wed, 05 Nov 2025 MP wants Elon Musk's chatbot shut down over claim he enabled grooming gangs

SNP MP Pete Wishart says he is seeking legal advice over the "disturbing" AI-generated social media post.
SNP MP Pete Wishart has called on Elon Musk to shut down his artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, Grok, after it labeled him a "rape enabler" in a post on social media platform X. The MP was responding to a question about his stance on an inquiry into grooming gangs in Scotland when the AI chatbot made the defamatory comment. Grok's response was generated based on its training data, which includes posts from X users. The chatbot can be prompted to use strong language against a user or generate apologies, depending on what it is asked and the data used to create it. Wishart has described the accusation as "deeply distressing" and said he had received abusive and threatening messages after the post was made. He has called for proper regulation of AI and social media platforms to ensure they serve the public interest. Musk's XAI company has been approached for comment, but no response has been provided. The incident highlights concerns about the potential risks and consequences of AI technology, particularly when it is used in a public forum without adequate safeguards or oversight.
